The DASIS Report:  Treatment Admissions in Rural Areas, 2003

Highlights:

  • There were 115,000 substance abuse treatment admissions to facilities in rural areas in 2003 (6% of all admissions) based on SAMHSA's Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS).
  • Rural substance abuse treatment admissions were more likely than urban substance abuse treatment admissions to report alcohol as the primary substance of abuse (52% vs. 40%).
